The galaxy s8 a totally new design including icon, search bar, and even weather widgets, that altogether provide a sleek impression to its users. In 2016, a 10-member lead team was set up to discover a new identity for Samsung's new experience, which will be changed in five years. The project collaborated with the Pentagram Design Studio in the United States. Pentagram played a role in discovering new design sources and I took the initiative in preparing new layouts of Samsung device iconography, lock screen and home screen and identity application.
The icon are designed using a concept called 'Light & Line', which cuts a part of the visual line so that real life shadows and light are mimicked. we first dirt molded the home button in a block shape and imagined visual elements of a light shining from within and a line that is formed from a shadow.
We discovered that the line formed on the side that emits light doesn't connect well with the shadow on the surface. we eventually lipped a portion of the line to create a flat but with an appearance of theree-dimensionality. this newly designed, unique icongraphy now serves as a bridge between hardware and software.
We imbued samsung's unique identity into app icons that have been designed through the newly developed iconography system. we created an improved variation of the samsung one font's dot and applied it to the curves of the outer square lines that contain the icon graphics.
The container is a derivative of the "i" from the Samsung One typeface designed by Neville Brody.
Users can feel one continuous visual experience from the new clock font to the icons in the display that all speak a single language of design.
